Raising the overall volume level can result in a corresponding increase in the existing noise floor. Each frequency band features downward expansion, which lets you reduce or suppress this noise. Downward expansion works as a counterpart to compression. As a result, many engineers are returning to a mixing and production workflow that values dynamic range and headroom — the art of Gain Staging, in other words.
Assemble a collection of these loops into a composition, therefore, and before you know it, the Master fader is clipping red. A simple sign of bad Gain Staging, therefore, is either a Master Fader, or individual channel faders, dramatically attenuated below their unity position. Put simply, Gain Staging is all about allowing Headroom in your mix, both on a track-by-track basis, but also in subsequent buses and, of course, the main stereo bus.
The walkthrough illustrates a number of contrasting solutions you can take in Logic Pro X so as to actively Gain Stage your mix correctly.
Of course, the inevitable question for those that enjoy their music sounding hyped or compressed, is that whether good Gain Staging results in productions that lack edge? In the long run, therefore, something as relatively innocuous as Gain Staging could be the workflow change that makes all the difference!
Good metering is essential for effective Gain Staging, so try placing an instance of the Level Meter plug-in across the main bus. Adjust the threshold to your preferred working level, which is usually dB.
Once instantiated, lowered the Gain control paying attention to the levels on the Pre-Fade channel meters.

Узнать больше 20, PM in response to octopi Compressog response to octopi Ha, brilliant! Accurate level meters show the exact peak and loudness values, while the circular side-chain input meter turns finding the perfect threshold setting into a trivial task. The Sklver has the slowest attack and release like many s compressors, while the gray and silver models have medium-fast attack and silver compressor logic pro x free for a more typical response similar to the vintage LA-2As that have earned their legendary status. Because the use of higher compression ratios on specific frequency bands is possible, Multipressor can achieve a higher average volume without causing audible artifacts. I’m now using the Renaissance Compressor on upright bass and on a few of the keyboard channels.

Not only that, but these different compressors each have a unique real-world counterpart that has been painstakingly recreated. Named after an earlier release of Logic Logic Platinum , circa ! Producers tend to use Platinum Digital when they need to make some technical adjustments to the way the level, the attack, or the release of a sound behave.
Tip: Studio VCA comes into its own on an instrument or vocal layer when you push the Threshold down and choose one of the Distortion options. Have a play, and enjoy the warm flavor of this compressor. Based on its real-world counterpart, the UREI the Studio FET Field-effect Transistor compressor is designed to give you a responsive and punchy attack, as well as providing a bit of nice color to the overall sound.
Tip: Give your lead part a solid attack to help find its place in the mix. The attack will poke through your mix and allow you to nestle the layer deeper in with the rest of the instruments, just biting through every time the compressor is initially activated.
The simplest of them all, the Classic VCA is modeled on the sound and controls of the real-world dbx Notice there are no attack and release controls here. The simplicity will help you make quick decisions, as you set the threshold and ratio to find the sweet spot. Side Note: The boffins over at Universal Audio have also released an emulation of the dbx You may want to compare it with the stock Logic Pro X plugin.
Once again, they are designed with real-world counterparts in mind. If you want to get a very smooth compression effect, while still coloring the sound with warmth and richness, Vintage Opto is the way to go. Try Vintage Opto when you want to let mid and low frequencies sing through, while higher frequencies are more finely attenuated. Fun Fact: Optical compressors literally react to a light flashing in response to the audio signal coming in.
They have a bit of a sluggish response once all the conversions are factored in, resulting in their distinctly smooth vintage tone. The bad news is that a compressor will almost never fix a weak sound. Compression is intended to either bring out the best in your sounds, eliminate inconsistencies, or provide a tool for experimentation. The good news is that Logic Pro X comes with a very solid and convincing range of compressors with a wide variety of uses.
As always, have a play around, trust your ears, and enjoy your music making! This is so amazing!.. I wish I could write these notes down on each compressors so I can pick the right one for each use case!

Start with the threshold up high and slowly bring it down til it starts compressing enough to were the vox, backups or bass sit in the mix. Anyways I can see why it’s not for eveyone but I love it but it is certainlly not the only comp i use I have had some fantastic results on transients like those of snare samples etc You can use it to really change the sound. It’s definitely more aggressive than the full fledged Comp I use it from time to time for creative purposes.
