I’m running into the problem with an HP Laserjet connected to a recently built Z computer running Win10Pro x I’ve tried connecting printer two ways. Firstly with a Parallel card plugged into a Pcei slot.

Printer worked fine in all other respects, but since couldn’t get the generic text driver to work, I removed the card and connect the printer with a Parallel to USB cable. Same result. Printer otherwise works fine with the cable. I’ve run the printer troubleshooter but no go. I’ve only tried to use the generic driver with this one application. It’s a check writing program that interfaces with Quicken that allows me to use my bank issued checks.

As I mentioned in original post, when I googled the problem, it seemed that other people ran into same problem with other software requiring the generic text driver, going back to Appreciate your looking into it. I run an application that requires printing to the Generic Text only print driver. Hsve been running it for years – fitst in WinXP, then in Windows 7 and it ran fine – no problems. Renently set up new computer with win10 pro x64 and cannot get the generic only text driver to print.

Have you also checked the USB connection? This is to verify if your printer is properly connected to your computer. By the way, does it only happen to a specific application?

Have you also consider using the printing troubleshooter? If you still haven’t, I encourage you to run the troubleshooter and see if it resolves the issue.

Thanks for your feedback. Some clients have upgraded to Windows 10 and one by one their printers stopped printing. Why this change? Hello all, i believe i found the solution but it may not be for all. Even thoug on Windows 7 it works and also on my Windows adobe photoshop v8 0 also. The solution for me was to connect the winsows to USB instead of adaptor. This means you have to have printer with USB connection and not serial.
