That depends on your organization and the software and its versions that are in use. You can’t set it via Outlook. If you also use Lync, then you can set it there. An administrator can also set it directly via Exchange commands. An alternative would be for your recipient to set a picture for your Contact item in their Contacts folder or connect Outlook to a Social Network Provider like Facebook or LinkedIn. They are aware of it but it is actually an Active Directory feature which is exposed via Exchange and intended as a corporate feature hence the admin level control as well. When you are connected to your contact via LinkedIn, your picture will show up for your contact when they have Outlook connected to LinkedIn.

Sadly, removing it doesn’t actually decrease the size of the message header. This feedback has definitely been heard by the team and has raised enough priority.

It’s definitely worse when you have the Reading Pane in the bottom rather than on the right. When I logged into my new Outlook account, I quickly noticed there was a photo attached to my emails. The editing field will open up, and from there you can click on your image to change it. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.

The user should always be in control of what image is used to depict them, and it shouldn’t have to be done in Lync, or by an admin. I must have searched for 30 minutes trying to figure out where to set the image. But the truth is, I can’t.

And unless my contacts set it for me, I will always be depicted as a silhouette or worse? Why even have the avatar space if users don’t have control over it?
